New video posted: “I Was Told It Was Just Stress”

This is a topic that has stayed with me for years, both personally and as a counsellor.

Stress does affect the body. But I think “it’s just stress” is often used as the end of the conversation, when it should be the beginning of a deeper one.

In this video I talk about:

– why stress and illness can amplify each other
– why the fact that stress is involved does not make symptoms less real
– the difference between disease and dysfunction
– why so many people are left feeling dismissed, even when something real is happening

You can watch the video here, and if it resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts in this thread. Has anyone ever told you it was “just stress” when you felt there was more going on?

I’ve shared a new video: “What If We Looked at Health as a System?”

In it, I talk about the idea that symptoms may not be the problem themselves, but clues that something deeper in the system is going on. I also share part of my own experience with digestive symptoms and why they only began to make sense when I looked at the bigger picture.

If you watch the video and it brings up something you’ve noticed in your own experience, I’d love to invite you to share in Noticing and Describing:

– a symptom that has always seemed “unrelated”
– something that changes depending on stress, sleep, hormones, environment, or life circumstances
– or a detail you once dismissed that now feels important

I just shared a new video about why I started building Health Story Lab.

In it, I talk about my own experience of living with a complex health story, the ways important parts of that story kept getting lost, and why I believe we need better ways to hold the whole picture.

If the video brings up thoughts about your own experiences, patterns, or the ways you have had to adapt, I invite you to continue the conversation in Noticing and Describing.
